Wind Investment Boardroom - In partnership with Firetrace

Wind Investment Boardrooms
This event took place on
January 28, 2021

Wind developers face a hazardous ultimatum in the global push for green energy. In 2020 the worldwide installed capacity hit 651GW, which is predicted to rise to 1787GW within a decade. As more turbines are installed across the globe, the amount of fire hazards is expected to increase substantially.

The ever-decreasing cost of wind projects encourages developers to increase turbine efficiency while keeping development costs low enough to attract investment. Further, there is little to no regulation regarding fire safety for wind turbines which has put project operators at greater risk of catastrophic fires, as well as higher insurance premiums if those risks aren’t actively managed.

In this 90-minute virtual summit, we will discuss these pressing issues on fire and insurance with a panel of experts. These are some of the questions we will tackle:

  • How are changes in turbine technology affecting project fire risks?
  • Are operators and investors doing enough to manage fire risks?
  • How are fires affecting insurance premiums and policies?
  • How can the insurance sector help improve industry best practice?
  • What emerging trends in insurance should operators be aware of?
  • What practical steps can the wind industry take to improve safety today?
  • With a constantly changing regulatory landscape, what challenges does the industry face?

Participants:

  • Chris Streatfeild, Independent Health & Safety Consultant, Renewable Safety and former Director of Health & Safety, RenewableUK
  • Alan Tucker, Managing Director, Renewable Energy Loss Adjusters
  • Angela Krcmar, Global Sales Manager - Wind, Firetrace International
  • Guillermo Rein, Professor of Fire Science, Imperial College, London
  • Joe Banks, Head of Technical Services, Harvest Energy Services
