How long have you worked in renewables?

About two decades. I worked on installation aspects of wave power devices in the 1990s, and offshore wind in the early 2000s.

I became president of GL Garrad Hassan in 2012, which became DNV GL Renewables Advisory division, and joined LOC this year.

Briefly, what does your firm do?

Marine warranty and consulting in the renewables, oil & gas, and shipping sectors.

Where do you see the biggest opportunities at present?

Offshore wind in Europe with the US and East Asia rising fast.

What is the biggest challenge facing wind, and how would you solve it?

Cost reduction in offshore wind. The answer comes from integrated design, radical innovation in turbine technology and embracing new thinking involving big data, drones and artificial intelligence to optimise operations and maintenance.

What do you enjoy most about working in wind?

Working with can do people who aren’t fazed by radical changes to conventional thinking.
