A Word About Wind

About us

A Word About Wind is the world’s biggest community for people working on the financial side of the global wind industry.

Who we are

A Word About Wind is the world’s biggest community for people working on the financial side of the global wind industry.

We founded A Word About Wind in 2012 because we wanted to empower people in the wind industry to build a cleaner and fairer world. We owe that to current and future generations.

We help people in our 6,500-strong community to grow their businesses in two main ways.

First, we run events that let them hear from the key players in the global wind industry and build their networks.

Second, we publish over 100 email briefings each year to help them make better business decisions, along with reports and bespoke research projects.

Who our members are

We are proud to count some of the biggest names and key players in wind energy amongst our members.

Our community has its strongest presence in Europe and the US, but is spread all around the world.

More than half of our community members are head of department, director or C-suite.

Meet the team

Ilaria Valtimora

Ilaria joined A Word About Wind as an analyst in October 2016. Ilaria's background is in economics and banking, and she started her career working for some major Italian banks. Before joining A Word About Wind, she spent three years at forex broker Fidelis, analysing and writing about foreign exchange markets for private clients and media groups including Bloomberg.

Richard Heap

Richard has spent his whole working life in business journalism, focusing on sectors including energy, property and technology. His previous roles include assistant editor at award-winning magazine Property Week; and research manager at Sunday Times Fast Track. He joined A Word About Wind in early 2014, and focuses on delivering vital financial news, insight and analysis.

Joe Tagg

Joe joined A Word About Wind in March 2022 following 10+ years in publishing and business intelligence. The vast majority of this time was spent in commercial and sales roles, and has included extensive travel to conferences and client meetings in weird and wonderful parts of the world. Joe looks forward to bringing this experience to the renewables and cleantech industries, areas of both professional and personal interest.

Outside of work, he enjoys all the cliches typically found in a dating profile: nature, hiking, cooking, reading, music etc. In late 2021, having moved to the countryside and into a neglected house, he now also spends a lot of time watching DIY videos and nursing minor injuries.

María Crespo Apastegui

Hailing from Spain, María has a background in arts and culture PR and uses her exceptional organisation skills to play the lead role in delivering our series of events across the year including our conferences and award programmes.

Pip Cull

Having worked previously in engagement amongst Oxford University's alumni community, I am passionate about engaging our members in our numerous events and communications campaigns. As a recent addition to the Tamarindo Group, I am looking forward to getting to know and to working intimately with the rest of the team and the Membership.

I graduated from Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford, in 2019, with a degree in Russian and French. I like keeping up to date with the latest Russian rap and dance music, and in more chilled times I can be found reading, writing, or playing Sims 3.

Adam Barber

A recognised industry commentator within the finance and renewable energy markets, Adam left a City-based investor relations firm to found A Word About Wind in 2010. The business now forms a part of parent company, Tamarindo Group. Having first published A Word About Wind in November of that same year, Adam remains an active participant and commentator on the conference circuit and plays a key role in the strategic development of the membership platform and service.
